Case study
Technicolor – Rooftop Generator & UPS Installation in a Logistically Challenging Location
Delivering resilient power infrastructure in central London is always complex, but this West End project on Wardour Street pushed the limits of logistics and engineering.
With no available space at ground level, the only viable location for the generator was the rooftop, a tight and structurally constrained area within a densely built environment. The installation had to be delivered with precision timing, under heavy planning restrictions, and in a location with restricted access and no margin for error.
Key Considerations
- Structural limitations on rooftop loading
- Safe access for long-term maintenance
- Delivery logistics, including crane coordination and lift permits
- Parking bay suspensions and controlled access on a busy London street
- Early morning timed delivery to minimise disruption to businesses and residents
Carter Sullivan delivered a complete end-to-end solution, managing every aspect of the project through our in-house team of engineers and project managers.
As a NICEIC Approved Contractor, all electrical works were carried out to the highest safety and compliance standards.
We supplied, installed, and commissioned:
- A 20kW UPS system to provide immediate backup to critical infrastructure
- A 66kVA generator, craned into a confined rooftop area
- Full electrical distribution, cabling, containment, and changeover systems
- All necessary logistics planning, delivery management, and installation sequencing
Delivery & Execution
The generator was successfully lifted into place during an early morning crane operation, coordinated with local authorities and supported by temporary parking bay suspensions and access management.
Our in-house electrical team completed the full system integration, ensuring seamless operation between the UPS, generator, and building infrastructure, all completed on time and within budget.
Ongoing Service & Support
Following installation, we continue to support the client with our comprehensive UPS & generator maintenance package, which includes:
- Planned Preventative Maintenance
- 24/7 technical support
- 4hr Emergency response
- Battery testing and replacement scheduling
Our commitment doesn’t stop at installation, we continue to support the system’s performance and reliability with proactive servicing and long-term care.
- Critical power resilience delivered in an ultra-constrained city environment
- Fully integrated UPS and generator system, designed for long-term performance
- All works completed by Carter Sullivan’s NICEIC-approved in-house team
- Turnkey delivery with no subcontractors or handovers
- Ongoing support ensures system readiness and long-term peace of mind
