Life safety and UPS

When life safety falls under your remit, there’s a lot to consider: costs, compliance, sustainability, stakeholders…We can help. We’ll advise you on the correct servicing and electrical aspects to ensure your installations comply with BS EN50171, which sets out the requirements for the central battery systems of life-saving equipment.
Life safety expertise

Stay safe, stay compliant

In critical moments, power is essential for life safety. A UPS solution from Carter Sullivan safeguards your vital systems during emergencies, and ensures your building adheres to EN50171 standards.

Emergency lighting

Emergency lighting guides occupants to safety during power outages. With Carter Sullivan's UPS, your emergency lights stay on, ensuring safe evacuation and preventing panic in crucial moments.

Fire sprinkler-systems

Sprinkler systems need reliable power to activate. Our UPS solutions ensure your sprinklers operate effectively, minimising fire damage and saving lives when seconds count.

Smoke extract-vent systems

These systems require constant power to remove smoke from buildings. A UPS system ensures these systems can maintain clear escape routes and reduce smoke inhalation.

Emergency use and fire-fighting lifts

Emergency and fire-fighting elevators are critical for safe evacuation and rapid firefighter access. Our UPS solutions ensure they operate without interruption.

We’ve been setting the standard for the installation and maintenance of UPS systems for over two decades. Whatever your critical-power needs, you’re in safe hands with us.
No cookie-cutter solutions
We devise a bespoke approach for every client. We don’t do cookie-cutter solutions. At best, they waste money – at worst, they risk failing when you need them most.
Costs, benefits and efficiencies
We’ll lay out the long-term business case for your UPS solution – helping you plan for the future, and get buy-in from stakeholders and procurement teams.
End-to-end sustainability
We’re proud to be at the forefront of the green revolution in UPS systems. You’ll get a full overview of your solution’s power usage, longevity, and eventual recycling.
Free on-site visit
Within a week of you getting in touch, we’ll conduct a free site survey. This allows us to understand the environment and your needs, and how both might evolve over time.
Bespoke consultancy and RAMS
Your Carter Sullivan consultant will provide a ‘power audit’ report and a full RAMS, for you to take to stakeholders. Any questions? We’re always just a quick call away.
In-house training and demos
We have our own on-site demo and training centre in Bedford, complete with batteries, bypass switches and fully operational UPS systems for you to interact with.
Rapid emergency response
We offer 24/7/365 support for any UPS issues. Depending on your contract, our guaranteed emergency response time ranges from next day to under four hours.

“Very good experience. Carter Sullivan went above and beyond decommissioning our old APC UPS. They carefully dismantled each of the racks, as our lift was too small to take the whole thing out in one go.”

Our process

Here’s what our standard UPS installation process looks like, from end to end. Bear in mind, however, that we devise a bespoke solution for every client. No two projects have the same life-safety requirements, so we never take a one-size-fits-all approach.
